Typically golden to reddish-brown, with a silky luster and a distinctive chatoyant (cat's eye) effect caused by the reflection of light off fibrous inclusions.
A variety of quartz that includes fibers of crocidolite (a type of asbestos) which have been replaced by silica. Generally opaque, with a smooth and polished surface. Exhibits a unique optical phenomenon where light reflects in a way that resembles the slit eye of a cat. Associated with protection, strength, and courage.
